Acclaimed director Martin Scorsese returns to theaters this weekend with his newest feature, the historical epic Killers Of The Flower Moon. But despite the director’s reputation, it still has plenty of competition against Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.
On Thursday, The Eras Tour made about $5.9 million, while Killers Of The Flower Moon came up a tad short of that number, with only $2.6 million in its preview shows on Thursday.
In only its second weekend, Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour put up a massive performance last weekend and is looking to bring in another tidy amount this weekend. As Variety reports, it’s currently on track to get somewhere between $30 and $40 million this weekend.
On the other hand, Killers Of The Flower Moon, based on David Grann’s novel, is looking to garner about $20-$30 million this weekend. However, there’s a slim chance that Scorsese’s picture could pull ahead for the number one spot. It is speculated that Swift’s movie could take in only $25 million, which would put Flower Moon on top.
Killers Of The Flower Moon is the 26th film from Scorsese and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone, and Robert DeNiro. The film cost around $200 million to make, meaning its road to turning a profit may be a tumultuous one. But with the runtime of 3 and a half hours and its projected opening gross, it could still be successful, especially considering the success of Nolan’s Oppenheimer earlier this year.
