It was recently revealed that the cult classic Toxic Avenger franchise is getting a reboot from Macon Blair with Peter Dinklage, Jacob Tremblay and Taylour Paige set to star. Now, THR has learned that Kevin Bacon has closed a deal with Legendary to play the villain in the upcoming reboot. Production on the project is set to begin in Bulgaria later this month.
The Toxic Avenger follows the protector of Tromaville, New Jersey: a repulsive yet lovable mutant who heroically stands up to bullies and corruption. Directors of the original Toxic Avenger film, Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz of Troma Entertainment, will be producing the new film.
Recently, Bacon has been busy with Showtime’s hit crime drama City on a Hill and with Andrew Baird’s upcoming Action Thriller film, One Way, which he stars in alongside Travis Fimmel, Drea de Matteo and Machine Gun Kelly.
Blair is known best for acting in films like Blue Ruin and Green Room, both of which were directed by Jeremy Saulnier, but Blair is no stranger to directing. His feature-length debut, I Don’t Feel at Home in this World Anymore, was a dark comedy that starred Melanie Lynskey and Elijah Wood and released to Netflix in 2017 and earned positive reviews from critics and audiences.
