Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes, Repo Man, The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus) sinks his acting chops into dark-comedy and crime, gaining a portly 30 lbs. for his out-of-character role, playing a foul-mouthed ex-con in Don Hemingway, his new film premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Richard Shepard (The Matador, The Hunting Party, TV’s Criminal Minds) wrote and directed the story of a tough first-class safe cracker (Law) who takes a 12 year stint in a London prison for keeping his mouth shut and protecting his crime boss, played by Demian Bichir (Che: Part Two, Savages, TV’s The Bridge). With his partner in crime, Richard E. Grant (The Iron Lady, Doctor Who) in tow, the two set out to recover Don’s relationship with his daughter (Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke) and claim what he believes he is owed for his loyalty. Nothing goes as planned, and soon Don is back doing what he does best.
Fox Searchlight has picked up the U.S. distribution of the film that was produced by Jeremy Thomas’s Recorded Picture Company and BBC Films. Don Hemingway will be released in the UK in November and in U.S. theaters April 4, 2014.
