Kurt Russell In Talks for ‘Fast & Furious 7’

Vin Diesel and Paul Walker are returning to the big screen as Dominic Toretto and Brian O’Conner for the seventh installment of the Fast & Furious series, and Kurt Russell is in negotiations to join them. There is no news of who Russell will be playing, but it has been mentioned that his role was originally offered to Denzel Washington, so it’s safe to assume that he is a key character.

In addition to Russell possibly coming on board, UFC star Ronda Rousey will be making her film debut with Fast 7, following in the footsteps of Gina Cararano, a former UFC fighter-turned-actress who played the federal sidekick to Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs in Fast & Furious 6.

As the post-credits scene in Fast & Furious 6 revealed, Jason Statham has already joined the cast as Ian Shaw, brother of Furious 6‘s antagonist Owen Shaw, and in the somewhat convoluted Fast timeline the new film will apparently fall after Tokyo Drift in the chronology. Also per the end of the last film, Los Angeles will be a key setting, getting back to the series’ roots. Shoots in Dubai, Tokyo, Atlanta, and Toronto are being planned as well. It remains to be seen how the story pulls Dwayne Johnson’s agent character back into the mix, but he’s signed on for the new film, as has Tyrese Gibson.

James Wan, known for his work in the horror genre (Saw, Insidious, and more recently the terrifying paranormal flick The Conjuring), is set to direct, while Chris Morgan, a veteran to the Fast movies, penned the script. Neal H. Moritz of Original Film is coming back as producer alongside Diesel.

The film is set to release July 11, 2014.
