John Malkovich Joins New Post-Apocalyptic Thriller ‘Bird Box’

A new post-apocalyptic thriller titled Bird Box is in the works, with its lead actress, Sandra Bullock (Gravity, Our Brand Is Crisis), being selected to join the cast earlier in the year in July. The cast is finally beginning to take shape, with John Malkovich officially joining in an unknown role, according to Variety. Malkovich is an extremely accomplished actor, and has acted in a variety of films, ranging from romance films like Dangerous Liaisons to odd comedies like Burn After Reading.

Bird Box focuses on Sandra Bullock’s character, a mother with her two children who survive an alien invasion that causes much of the world to kill each other through senseless violence because of the aliens’ uncanny ability to spark violent nature within someone just by being seen. Bullock’s character must traverse a dangerous 20-mile journey with her two children while blindfolded, relying on her children’s senses and her own instincts to survive.

The film is being directed by Susanne Bier (In A Better World, Love Is All You Need) with a script written by Eric Heisserer (Arrival, Lights Out), who had been working on the script even before the book that inspired the film was released. There is currently no release date, but we will try to keep you updated on the film’s release and other featured actors.
