David Permut has acquired the rights to produce the narrative adaptation of Joanna Hodgkin’s best-selling novel Tell Me Who I Am that chronicles the captivating and heart-wrenching true story of Alex and Marcus Lewis. Deadline confirmed the news regarding the acquisition.
There is also a critically acclaimed Netflix documentary of the same name that was released in 2019.
Alex Lewis, who lost his memory in a motorbike accident when he was 18, relies on his twin brother Marcus, the only person he remembers, to educate him on who he is. However, Marcus’ bucolic childhood conceals a tragic family secret that the twins must eventually confront decades later.
“I found the story about the complexities in the relationship between Marcus and Alex to be emotionally charged and simply one of the most riveting stories I have ever heard,” Permut tells Deadline. “It has the makings of a great narrative film for the right filmmaker and certainly a tour de force for an actor in the portrayal of the twin brothers.”
With this latest acquisition, Permut expands his broad slate of real stories, including Sian Heder’s upcoming film, Being Heumann, based on Judy Heumann’s remarkable story and Craig Gillespie’s Chippendales.
The project is currently looking for writers, a director, and actors.
