Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Pratt Rumored for Romantic Leads in ‘Passengers’

Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook) and Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy) are currently in talks with Sony Pictures for their sci-fi romance, Passengers, according to The Wrap. Helmed by The Imitation Game director Morten Tyldum with a script by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus), the story follows a spacecraft mission as one of its passengers wakes up from his cryogenic sleep 90 years too soon. Afraid to face an entire life-cycle alone, he decides to wake up a fellow female passenger.

This project has already struggled through a lengthy development process. Originally possessed by the Weinstein Company and then Focus Features, Sony Pictures only acquired the rights to Passengers this past December, right in the middle of their hacking scandal.

Although the negotiations surrounding the two high-profile actors are reportedly quite serious, Lawrence’s presently busy schedule may be a deciding factor in her deal going through. In 2015 she will be moving ahead with several projects including David O. Russell’s Joy, and X-Men : Apocalypse, as well as two films with director Francis Lawrence: the final The Hunger Games installment and The Dive.

Pratt may have a full schedule as well. Coming up, he will be promoting the final season for NBC’s Parks and Recreation, plus Jurassic World this summer. He is also currently rumored for Antoine Fuqua’s (Training DayThe Magnificent Seven, and has a script for the comedy Vacation Friends with wife Anna Faris (House Bunny).
