Star Lord himself, Chris Pratt, is in talks to join a remake of the 1962 western, The Magnificent Seven. Denzel Washington is also set to star in film that will reunite him with his Training Day and The Equalizer director, Antoine Fuqua.
Pratt is just the second star to join the remake. The original featured some of the top stars of the time including Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson and Yul Brynner. Tom Cruise was originally slated to star in the film but had to cancel due to scheduling conflicts. Director John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side) was brought in to rewrite the script penned by True Detective writer Nic Pizzolatto.
The story follows a group of gunfighters who defend a small town against a group of thieves. The original film is a remake of Akira Kurisowa’s Seven Samurai (1954). The film’s premise was the basis for many others, including A Bugs Life – which was dedicated to the classic’s star Thoshiro Mifune.
With these reports, Guardians of the Galaxy and the upcoming Jurassic World, Pratt has successfully made the transition from comedy to action films, though he will likely get to exercise his comedic muscles in the sequel to The Lego Movie.
