Jeff Bridges Boards ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’

The Dude may soon be on a mission. Oscar winner Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart) appears to be set to join the cast of the upcoming film Kingsman: The Golden Circle. The material, originating from the comic book created by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons, already spawned an international hit with last year’s Kingsman: The Secret Service follows a street smart lad who joins a top secret spy organization.

Matthew Vaughn, director of X-Men: First Class and Kick-Ass, returns to the director’s chair for the follow-up that will pick up where the previous film left off. What’s known of the plot at this time is Eggsy (played by returning Taron Egerton) will head to the United States to join forces with the American “Statesman” in helping to infiltrate evil doing from a criminal mastermind. The ensemble cast for the film has shaped out nicely with additions set to include Halle Berry (Oscar winner for Monster’s Ball), Channing Tatum (Magic Mike), Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones), Sir Elton John (for real) and Oscar winner Julianne Moore (Bridges’ cohort in the 1998 cult classic The Big Lebowski) attached to play the Big Bad. Mark Strong (Tinker Tailor Solider Spy) and perhaps, Colin Firth, are set to return to the film. Vaughn co-wrote the screenplay with Jane Goldman. Bridges’ casting announcement was confirmed on his Twitter page.

Bridges most recently appeared on screen in the box office miss Seventh Son (which, coincidentally, also featured Moore) and will next be seen in the crime drama Hell or High Water, David Mackenzie’s latest which also stars Chris Pine (Into the Woods) and Ben Foster (Lone Survivor). That film recently made its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival where it earned favorable early reviews. Bridges also has voice part in the upcoming animated feature The Little Prince, which was recently acquired by Netflix and is set to star shooting the firefighter drama No Exit alongside Miles Teller (Whiplash) and Josh Brolin (Inherent Vice).

Kingsman: The Golden Circle is set to open on June 17, 2017.
