Hollywood continues to struggle with the impact of the coronavirus pandemic that it has caused in the film industry, with big movie districts like Los Angeles and New York still closed. Sony announced that they delayed the theatrical release of Jared Leto’s Morbius, a comic book thriller from Marvel’s Living Vampire, by seven months. The production of Morbius was finished in 2019 and planned for the summer 2020 release date, but that was not meant to be. COVID-19 cases continue to rise all over the world, so more and more movies are either getting delayed, going straight to streaming, or video-on-demand.
It would be interesting to know that it has almost been a full year since the first trailer of Morbius was released, and when it is released (if the date sticks) will be 15 months after the original release planned for the film.
Based on the Marvel Comics character Michael Morbius (Leto), it focuses on a biochemist who becomes a vampire after seeking to heal a mysterious blood disease. The cast includes Matt Smith (Doctor Who, The Crown), Jared Harris (Chernobyl), and Tyrese Gibson (The Fast and The Furious franchise).
