There’s a new anti-hero poised to make an appearance in Sony’s Spider-verse series of films, as Marvel property Morbius the Living Vampire is said to start production soon. A now clean-shaven Jared Leto tweeted a humorous transformation video this past week, showing a before-and-after montage as he morphed from hairy to shorn in anticipation of playing the lead role in Morbius.
This is the second comic book role for Leto, who famously portrayed the Joker in DC’s Suicide Squad and may return as the character in future DC films. Leto isn’t the first actor to make the switch from DC to Marvel, as Tom Hardy played Bane in The Dark Knight Rises before starring in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe film Venom. Hardy was also originally slated to play Rick Flag in Suicide Squad (a role eventually filled by Joel Kinnaman), but he had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.
So far its too early to predict just how well director Daniel Espinosa’s take on Morbius will translate to the big screen. Stay tuned to mxdwn.com for the latest developments, as we are still anticipating casting news and an official release date. In the meantime, watch the video below for a view of Leto’s epic transformation.
