Jared Leto in Talks for Valiant Entertainment’s ‘Bloodshot’ Adaptation

While his recent endeavors in the world of superhero films weren’t all that stellar, Jared Leto still has some new opportunities ahead of him. Having previously played the Joker in last year’s Suicide Squad, Leto’s performance was among the most critical elements of the film, with many people finding it unnecessary in relationship to the main storyline. However, one bad performance does not exclude Leto’s other cinematic accomplishments, among them numerous awards for Best Supporting Actor in regard to his performance in 2013’s Dallas Buyers Club.

Alongside his upcoming performances in this year’s Blade Runner 2049 and the Japan-set action crime drama The Outsider, Leto might be setting his sights on another comic book movie. The actor is currently in talks to play the lead role in Sony’s adaptation of Bloodshot, based on the comic series by Valiant Entertainment. Originally published in 1992, the titular Bloodshot is a former soldier who possesses enhanced strength, speed, and regenerative powers due to his body being injected with nanotechnology. After having his memory wiped numerous times via forced experimentation, Bloodshot’s storyline revolves around a quest to discover his former identity and seek vengeance on those who did this to him.

Bloodshot is to be the second entry in the five-picture deal between Sony, Valiant and the Bejing-based DMG Entertainment, with Leto’s casting giving their franchise a bit of brand recognition. Future releases for this upcoming cinematic universe will include a sequel for Bloodshot, two movies based off of the Harbinger series, and a Harbinger Wars-inspired crossover film. The project will be produced by Original Film founder Neal Moritz (Fast and the Furious) and Valiant’s Dinesh Shamdasani, with Matthew Vaughn and Jason Kothari serving as executive producers. Bloodshot is to be directed by Dave Wilson, a partner of Blur Studios alongside Deadpool director Tim Miller.
