James Cameron Launches a Masterclass Filmaking Course

James Cameron, one of Hollywood’s most successful directors has had his films gross over $6 billion at the box office. Now he is sharing his knowledge with his first ever online filmmaking class, which will be exclusive to the e-learning site MasterClass.

Cameron promises to share a behind the scenes look into his creative process, along with the techniques and practices that he has gathered over his career.

Cameron will break down aspects of his own film including The Terminator, Titanic, Aliens, and Avatar to demonstrate his processes in character development and storytelling. He will also be discussing how technology has helped him as a filmmaker.

“I’ve been directing films for almost four decades, and if there’s one thing I’ve realized, it’s that learning is a constant process,” Cameron said “Every filmmaker stands on the shoulders of the filmmakers who came before them, and I hope that my MasterClass will allow members to filter and develop my techniques through their own subjective lens and experiences.”

Cameron’s career was kickstarted in 1984 after the success of The Terminator. Following this he made several science fiction classics like Aliens, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and The Abyss. Cameron broke box office records with Titanic, which he wrote and directed, only to top his own record in 2009 with Avatar, with it’s sequel scheduled for release in December 2022.

MasterClass has been around since 2015. It offers on-demand courses from celebrities and experts in nearly any field you’d want to learn about. It now has over 100 courses, taught by the likes of Ken Burns, Jodie Foster, RuPaul, Judd Apatow, Martin Scorese, and Steve Martin.
