James Cameron Announces Production Update on ‘Avatar’ Sequels

On Saturday James Cameron disclosed several production details about his upcoming Avatar sequels. The director wrote a Reddit AMA stating that the scripts should be finished within the next six weeks, and that his biggest challenge is cutting out aspects that he loves in order to keep the film within budget.

Cameron’s Reddit AMA was in response to a fan’s inquiry as to whether Arnold Schwarzenegger would be in the film. Cameron’s reply was “probably not,” but he did expand on the current state of production on the films.

“The second, third and fourth films all go into production simultaneously. They’re essentially all in preproduction now, because we are designing creatures, settings and characters that span all three films….There’s always pressure, whether its a new film or whether its a sequel, to entertain and amaze the audience. I’ve felt that pressure my entire career, so there’s nothing new there….There hasn’t been a problem finding new and wonderful things to include in the movie.”

Audiences will have to wait until the first sequel hits theaters in December 2016 to see just what new and wonderful things Cameron has in store.
