Harrison Ford “Curious And Excited” About Possible ‘Blade Runner’ Sequel

Visionary artist Ridley Scott is one of the busiest director/producers working today. His Scott Free production banner is behind numerous projects in varying stages of development, several of which Scott is personally involved with. One such project is a potential sequel to the his cult-classic Blade Runner, which starred Harrison Ford.

Whether a sequel will actually be made is still up in the air. However, curiosity and excitement for the project is building. Ford answered questions Sunday during a Reddit Ask Me Anything interview, and to no one’s surprise the idea of a sequel came up. Ford wrote that he is “curious and excited” about seeing a new script for a Blade Runner sequel and that “it would be very interesting to revisit the character.” Ford also mentioned that he would like to work the Scott again, calling him “a very talented and passionate filmmaker.”

Some of Ford’s biggest blockbusters of late have included revisiting old characters that established him as one of Hollywood’s biggest superstars. The latest character to be revisited is the lovable scoundrel turned hero Han Solo in Disney’s continuation of George Lucas’s Star Wars saga with Episode VII, due in December 2015. It’s important to note that his appearance in the new Star Wars film is still rumored, although it’s widely accepted that he will be reprising his role in the film along with original co-stars Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher. And let’s also not forget Ford’s return as the famous archeologist/adventurer Dr. Jones in Indiana Jones And the Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull (2008). Even a fifth Indiana Jones film may also in development

Perhaps it’s time for Ford’s last but not least iconic role as Blade Runner Rick Deckard to get another chance with audiences, as well. We know Ford is up for it. What about Scott? Well, as recently as last October, Ford mentioned in a podcast for Empire that they were working on it and that ‘it will happen sooner or later.’ Back in 2012 Scott told Independent that he’d definitely have to have Ford back as Deckard, but it sounded more like Scott was thinking of Ford as having more of a supporting role in the film or perhaps even just as a cameo.

It’s hard to think of a Blade Runner sequel without Ford in a prominent role, but with Scott it’s hard to be sure what exactly is cooking. It’s probably safe to say that if the sequel does bow in theaters, Ford will play some part. We’ll look forward to more information on this story as it develops.

You can next see Ford in the second sequel to Sylvester Stallone’s assembly of aging-but-still-kicking former action stars The Expendables 3 due in theaters this August. Scott’s next directorial effort, a take on Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt, Exodus: Gods And Kings is due out this December.
