Jake Gyllenhaal in Talks for Boston Marathon Bombing Movie

While fans can currently see Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler) in the boxing ring in Southpawthey may also soon see him in the upcoming book-to-film adaptation Stronger. The actor is reportedly interested in starring in the film about Jeff Bauman, a survivor of the 2013 Boston Marathon who lost both legs in the infamous terrorist attack. The novel of the same name by Bauman and co-author Bret Witter follows the runner’s rehab and his role as a witness in the trial of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

Gyllenhaal continues to line up serious dramatic roles. Along with Southpaw, the actor received wide critical acclaim for his performance in last year’s Nightcrawler, and has an upcoming role this year in the survival adventure Everest, as well as Tom Ford’s (A Single ManNocturnal Animals. He will also be seen in the drama Demolition later this year.

Despite being a in a number of acclaimed roles, Gyllenahaal has only been nominated for one Oscar. The nature of this story makes it one that awards committees will likely keep their eye on it once it is released.

David Gordon Green (Joe) will direct Stronger, which was written by John Pollono (Sex & Marriage). The movie is being produced by David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman, and Scott Silver, the team that worked together on The Fighter (2010).
