Idris Elba to Star in and Direct ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’ for Netflix

Golden Globe winner Idris Elba will be directing, producing, and starring in Netflix adaptation of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, the 1831 Victor Hugo novel that was adapted into the 1996 Disney film. Elba will play the lead, Quasimodo, in the modern retelling of the Hunchback story.

Fred Berger, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, and Ana Garanito will produce, and Michael Mitnick, the writer behind The Giver, will tackle the script.

Elba recently made his directorial debut at Sundance with the drama Yardie, and has starred in and executive produced the comedy series Turn Up Charlie for Netflix. You can currently catch him in Avengers: Infinity War as Heimdall.
