It was announced on Thursday that Hugh Jackman will be producing Fox 2000’a upcoming film adaptation of the YA novel The Absolute True Diary of Part-Time Indian. No official word whether Jackman will have an acting role in the film, but it is suspected he will play a supporting role in addition to producing.
Native American writer Sherman Alexie, known for writing the 1998 film Smoke Signals, wrote the YA novel and will be writing the screenplay. Diary of a Part-Time Indian follows a young Native-American high schooler as he moves from his reservation in Eastern Washington state to an ‘all white’ high school, all in pursuit of his dream to become a professional cartoonist for comic books. The novel included 65 comic illustrations by Ellen Forney.
Temple Hill Entertainment (Twilight series, Mazerunner series, Fault in Our Stars, and Paper Towns) will team up with producers at Donors Company (X-Men series and Deadpool series) to finance.
Jackman can be seen next year in the X-Men spinoff Logan, as well as the P.T. Barnum biopic The Greatest Showman. He has also signed on to star in a feature film version of Homer’s The Odyssey, biblical drama Apostle Paul (being produced by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon), and a film adaptation of musical Carousel.
No release date is set for Diary of a Part-Time Indian.
