Over the centuries the myth of Pygmalion, which is about an artist who falls in love with his statue that then comes to life, has been adapted in retold countless times. One of the most well known retellings of the Pygmalion myth is George Bernard Shaw’s 1913 play, Pygmalion. The play is about a linguistic professor named Professor Henry Higgins who trains a poor cockney woman, named Eliza, on how to speak posh English and how to behave like a wealthy duchess. Shaw’s play was eventually adapted into the very popular musical called My Fair Lady in 1956. Then in 1964 the musical was adapted into a renewed movie.
Now according to Variety actor Pierce Brosnan and actress Helena Bonham Carter will be starring in an upcoming movie about the first staging of the 1914 West End production of Shaw’s Pygmalion. The movie will be titled Not Bloody Likely, and it will be written and directed by Joel Hopkins, who directed Hampstead and The Love Punch. Brosnan is of course best known for playing Britain’s most famous fictional spy, James Bond, and Carter is well known for her role as Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter movies.
Deadline reported that Cornerstone Films is in charge of the movie’s international sales rights.
