Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci drama has been criticized by the Gucci fashion empire’s heirs, who have hinted at legal action. The family has issued a statement claiming they are “a bit disconcerted” about their erroneous portrayal in House of Gucci.
The heirs of former Gucci chairman Aldo Gucci said in a statement published by ANSA, the Italian wire service, on its website on Monday, “The Gucci family reserve the right to take every initiative [necessary] to protect their name and image and those of their loved ones.”
The Gucci family alleges in a statement widely circulated in Italian media that Scott and the producers of House of Gucci “did not bother to consult the heirs” of the fashion dynasty before presenting their family members as “thugs, ignorant and insensitive to the world around them.”
According to the family statement, it is “mystifying” that a woman guilty of provoking the murder of her ex-husband would be depicted as “a victim trying to survive in a male corporate culture.” The Guccis claimed that during the 70 years that the fashion house was a family-owned business, it was “an inclusive company.”
According to an inside source, despite the tone of the statement, the Gucci family is not pursuing legal action against Scott or Universal at this time.
