Taiwanese actor Jay Chou has officially joined Vin Diesel in upcoming spy thriller xXx 4 according to Deadline. Chou is best known for his starring role in Sony’s 2011 film adaptation of The Green Hornet, which also starred Seth Rogen.
Though there is not much information on what shape the plot will take on this fourth installment of the unconventional xXx franchise, production is set to begin sometime next year. The latest installment is directed once again by D.J Caruso, who helmed 2017’s xXx: Return of Xander Cage. The film also co-stars Chinese actress Zoe Zhang.
The first three films, xXx, xXx: State of the Union (sans Diesel), and xXx: The Return of Xander Cage brought in over $694 million worldwide at the box office. Xander Cage netted $364 million worldwide (though only $45 million of that total came from North America), so one can reasonably expect the fourth film to do just as well assuming audiences in China turn out in force.
We’ll have more on the development of xXx 4 as production ramps up.
