The 2020 Golden Globes have officially been moved to February 2021 over concerns about the gathering of large crowds due to the current pandemic. The ceremony, which was initially supposed to be in early January, is being pushed more than a month back to 8 p.m. on Sunday, February 28 in the hopes that, by then, the virus’ spread will be even further mitigated. There is also hope that a vaccine could become widely available at this time.
This comes on the heels of the Oscar’s delaying their show from February 28 to April 25, 2021, per Variety. The Globes are typically the first film-centric award show of the season, and it appears that they are working to continue this current order. Some of the other prominent cultural award shows of the year, such as the Emmys and Grammys, have not yet made any announcement about their plans.
It will be interesting to see which films will be nominated this year, as many of the expected contender’s, such as Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch or Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, are facing very possible postponements in their releases, as well.
The seventy-seventh celebration of the Golden Globes will be hosted by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey for their fourth time together.
