Glen Powell States “I Have A Date” In Regards To ‘Top Gun 3,’ But Can “Absolutely Not” Share Any Other Information

While Glen Powell and co-star Daisy Edgar-Jones were recently on the Happy Sad Confused podcast promoting their new movie Twisters, the actors were asked which project fans would see a first: A season two of Edgar’s Normal People or a third installment of Glenn’s Top Gun movie franchise. To that, Powell responded, “I mean, I have a date,” but then stated that he could “absolutely not” discuss the project any further.

In January of this year, it was confirmed by Paramount Pictures that a third Top Gun movie would soon be in the works. At the same time at the Sundance Film Festival, Powell talked with Variety about the upcoming project, “There is going to be some fun stuff being announced soon…but it was confidential to me. I talk to [Joseph] Kosinski, Cruise and Jerry [Bruckheimer] all the time. There is stuff happening and it sounds very exciting. I don’t know when I’ll be going back…I’m sure there is a jet waiting for me sometime in the future.”

Variety also reported in January that “Paramount has tapped Top Gun: Maverick co-writer Ehren Kruger to work on a script for a sequel to the action blockbuster, according to a knowledgeable insider. The studio is also hoping that Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski will get back into the cockpit for another installment in the series, which would potentially see Cruise’s younger co-stars Miles Teller and Glen Powell return for more high-altitude excitement. Discussions about the new script began late last year. There’s still a few hurdles to cross, with Cruise and company needing to sign off on a final version.”

The second installment of the Top Gun franchise, Top Gun: Maverick, premiered May 27, 2022, and became an instant hit, drawing in $1.4 billion at the worldwide box office. The film brought back one of Tom Cruise’s most iconic characters, Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, and introduced Miles Teller and Powell into the Top Gun universe as Lt. Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw and Lt. Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin respectively. The film also starred Monica Barbaro, Lewis Pullman, Jay Ellis, and many others.
