Gary Oldman to Portray Herman Mankiewicz in ‘Mank’ from David Fincher

Herman Mankiewicz is famous figure in the writing industry, once a newspaper, later became known for his screenwriting in the Golden Age of Hollywood. He is best known for such classics as The Wizard of Oz, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and most importantly, Citizen Kane. A feature film is now in production by The Social Network and Fight Club director David Fincher for Netflix that will be titled Mank

Oscar winning actor Gary Oldman will be set to portray titular character Herman Mankiewicz. This is ideal casting since Oldman is very versatile in his roles, going from great supportive roles like Commissioner Gordon in The Dark Knight, to playing famous historical figures in very faithful ways with Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour.

Add in Fincher, who has a distinctive filmmaking style, and has been very passionate about creating a biopic of Herman since early in his career with 1997’s The Game. Not only that but Fincher’s Father, Jack Fincher, is writing the script for the upcoming biopic.

The film will also be shot in black and white to stay true to the classic Hollywood feel. Not much else has been stated about the film, but it is already clear that audiences will receive a passion project from Fincher about one of the most important names in filmmaking history.

No release date has been set for the film yet.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
