Game of Thrones star Lena Headey is set to make her directorial debut with the psychological thriller Violet, Deadline reports. The film will be based on the successful, recent novel by SJI Holiday. The story follows two female travelers who immediately hit it off and decide to spend the next leg of their adventure together. As the journey continues, things begin to unravel for the pair because neither woman is who they claim to be.
The project heralds Goldfinch Entertainment, a producer and financier for the film out of the UK. The screenplay was written by Gareth Pritchard, Sankara Pictures will co-produce, with Mark Foligno of Limelight CTL, Ben Edwards, and Phil Mckenzie of Goldfinch Entertainment. The book was originally optioned for the screen by Dark Alliance Film, Ed Boase and Marcus Stamps from the company are aboard as executive producers.
Although this is Headey’s directorial debut for the big screen, the actress wrote and directed the 2019 BAFTA-nominated short film The Trap and directed her Game of Thrones, co-star, Maise Williams in a music video for singer Freya Ridings. The Emmy-nominated actress has most recently starred in Netflix’s thriller Gunpowder Milkshake and HBO’s upcoming The White House Plumbers. Production is slated to begin in October.
