Fox Searchlight Takes On Wes Anderson’s ‘Isle of Dogs’

Following the announcement of the title of Wes Anderson’s next stop-motion animated flick Isle of Dogs, Fox Searchlight has announced that they have picked up the film for distribution both domestically and internationally.

Isle of Dogs will tell the story of a young Japanese boy searching for his dog, and will feature the voice talents of stars such as Bryan Cranston,  Jeff Goldblum, Scarlett Johansson, Harvey Keitel, Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Liev Schreiber, and Tilda Swinton. Fox Searchlight distributed Anderson’s previous film The Grand Budapest Hotel. The film was nominated for nine Academy Awards. It was nominated for Best Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, Editing, and Cinematography, while it won for Costume Design, Makeup & Hairstyling, Original Score and Production Design.

This will be Anderson’s second animated feature. Anderson’s first animated film was 2009’s Fantastic Mr Fox, which starred George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, Owen Wilson, and Willem Dafoe. It was nominated for two Academy Awards: Best Animated Film and Best Original Score.

Nancy Utley and Steve Gilula, Fox Searchlight Pictures Presidents, had this to say regarding the upcoming project

Wes Anderson is one of the most talented filmmakers of his, or any other, generation. His ability to write smart and unconventional screenplays and then translate them into unique experiences on screen makes him not only a unique voice in film, but one who can truly bridge the gap between independent films and cross-over hits.

This year, Fox Searchlight distributed critically-acclaimed films Jackie and Birth of a Nation.

A 2018 release date is expected for Isle of Dogs.
