Carrie Fisher in ICU Following Reported Heart Attack

News broke on Friday that Carrie Fisher, perhaps cinema’s most enduring princess, reportedly suffered a heart attack while aboard a plane from London to Los Angeles. Her brother, Todd Fisher, recently confirmed with the Associated Press that she was “out of emergency.” He later elaborated that Fisher was moved into intensive care but receiving “excellent care.”

Details on the events that transpired started filtering out shortly after noon as police at LAX confirmed that a woman in her 60s – later revealed to the actress – was taken off United Airlines Flight 935 after “what appears to be a heart attack.” While aboard the flight, some crew members and passengers assisted Fisher and shortly thereafter the Los Angeles Fire Department reacted to a call about 12:11 PM that Fisher was in cardiac arrest while paramedics arrived to provide life support before transporting the Star Wars icon to the hospital. She was then taken to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.

Fisher, 60, is a Hollywood fixture. The daughter of icons Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher, she burst to fame with her role of Princess Leia in George Lucas’ 1977 space opera classic Star Wars. She appeared in the franchise’s defining trilogy and returned to the role in last year’s successful reboot Star Wars: The Force Awakens; she is slated to also appear in next year’s Star Wars: Episode VIII. Outside of the Star Wars universe, Fisher is also an accomplished writer – she was in the UK participating in a book tour for her latest memoir The Princess Diarist.

The 2-time Emmy nominee (one nod was for a memorable guest spot on Tina Fey’s comedy 30 Rock) has appeared in notable films including ShampooWhen Harry Met Sally and Maps to the Stars and adapted her darkly comic semi-memoir Postcards From the Edge for the screen – which starred Meryl Streep to boot.

We wish Fisher a speedy recovery and will stay tuned to the latest developments.
