First Trailer Surfaces for David O. Russell’s ‘Joy’

The first trailer for David O.Russell’s Joy has been released online. The Fox film re-teams writer/director Russell (American Hustle) with his stars from Silver Linings Playbook – Jennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games), Bradley Cooper (American Sniper), and Robert De Niro (The Comedian).

The generation-spanning drama features Lawrence in a role loosely inspired by the life of Joy Mangano, the entrepreneur and inventor who created the Miracle Mop and other household staples. According to the film’s official synopsis:

Joy is the wild story of a family across four generations, centered on the girl who becomes the woman who founds a business dynasty and becomes a matriarch in her own right. Betrayal, treachery, the loss of innocence and the scars of love pave the road in this intense emotional and human comedy about becoming a true boss of family and enterprise and facing a world of unforgiving commerce. Allies become adversaries and adversaries become allies, both inside and outside the family, as Joy’s inner life and fierce imagination carry her through the storm she faces

In addition to Cooper and De Niro, the star-studded ensemble features Edgar Ramirez (the upcoming Point Break remake), Isabella Rossellini (Fearless), Diane Ladd (Inland Empire), and Virginia Madsen (Sideways). Russell directs from  a script he wrote with Annie Mumolo.

The film is already generating Oscar buzz for both Russell and Lawrence, and fittingly it is scheduled to open just in time for awards season on Christmas Day. Check out the trailer below.
