The first trailer for the indie thriller Cop Car has arrived online, and it shows star Kevin Bacon (of the upcoming gangster drama Black Mass) at his malevolent best. The film, centering on the consequences of couple of young kids’ joyride in what they thought was an abandoned police cruiser, was a hit at this year’s Sundance Festival.
When he finds his ride is missing, Bacon’s menacing lawman sets out in pursuit of the boys (played by Hays Wellford and James Freedson-Jackson), his car, and most importantly, the mysterious contents of the trunk. Camryn Manheim (TV’s Person of Interest) and Shea Whigham (Silver Linings Playbook) are also featured.
Jon Watts (2014’s Clown) directs from a script he wrote with Christopher D. Ford (Robot & Frank). Focus World snapped up the U.S. and UK distribution rights at Sundance. The film is slated for an August 7 opening in theaters, followed by a VOD release the following week. Check out the trailer below.
