First Look at The Russo Brothers’ ‘The Gray Man’ Starring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans

Netflix has unveiled the first look at The Russo Brothers’ newest flick, The Gray Man, starring Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, and Rege Jean-Page. Entertainment Weekly first reported on the news and spoke with Anthony and Joe Russo about their newest project.

The Russos are finally getting the chance to execute a true spy-thriller, built up to with their work on Captain America: The Winter Soldier and, most recently, Cherry, two films with no shortage of paranoia and high tension. Netflix’s The Gray Man is based on Mark Greaney’s series of books and follows Court Gentry, played by Gosling, a CIA agent on the run after exposing incriminating evidence within the organization. Evans plays Lloyd Hansen, the man who placed the bounty on Gentry and is attempting to find him.

One of the first look photos shows Gosling casually sitting in a bar, while another shows him aiming a rifle. Evans is shown menacingly holding a pistol in his villainous role, a departure from his usual roles. Ana de Armas and Bridgerton star Rege Jean-Page are also shown in the preview photos as CIA agents Dani Miranda and Carmichael, respectively.

Anthony Russo says: “We’re big fans of the spy genre, and we’re always looking for ways of how to twist it, or supercharge it, or push it into areas that feel fresh. There was a great idea at the center of this book, where it’s not just about being a spy, but being the most extreme version of one, where you have to hide your own identity — and yourself.”

The Gray Man releases in select theaters on July 15 before releasing on Netflix on July 22.
