The latest in a list of award-winning films with the word “Blue” in the title, Blue Ruin won the FIPRESCI (Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique) Prize during Director’s Fortnight at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. Now, much like another festival hit about revenge – the Aboriginal Canadian thriller, Rhymes for Young Ghouls – director Jeremy Salinder’s second movie is set to receive a wider release beginning April 25th.
Blue Ruin comes to us courtesy of Radius-TWC, an arm of The Weinstein Company that’s put out some of their smaller releases such as Lovelace, Only God Forgives, and The Man of Tai Chi. The plot of the film, according to the official synopsis, ” follows mysterious outsider whose quiet life is turned upside down when he returns to his childhood home to carry out an act of vengeance. Proving himself an amateur assassin, he winds up in a brutal fight to protect his estranged family.” Aside from its wide release (which will include Video On Demand) Blue Ruin is showing at the in-progress Sundance Film Festival.
