Filmmakers Behind “RBG” Set Their Sights On Another Influential Woman: Julia Child

Last year filmmakers Betsy West and Julie Cohen released the stunning documentary RBGwhich was of course about the life and career of the American Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Now West and Cohen have announced their plans for new documentary about another female trailblazer: the one and only Julia Child.

Standing at over six feet tall, Julia Child became famous for her eccentric personality and love of cooking. Most people know about Julia Child from her cook books and iconic cooking show The French Chef, but Merely Streep’s portrayal of Child in the movie Julie & Julia likely brought her back into the spotlight.

Julia Child led a rather unique life. Before she started her cooking career she served in the military during World War II as part of the Office of Strategic Services. At this time she met her husband and the two remained happily together until his death. As a pop culture icon, Child changed the way Americans approached food. Not only did she make recipes for exotic cuisine more accessible to the American public, but she inspired many other girls and women to take up careers as professional chefs.

Right now the project is going under the title of Julia. West and Cohen are planning on producing the documentary with the help of Imagine Documentaries.
