‘WandaVision’ Director Matt Shakman Announced To Helm ‘Fantastic Four’ Reboot

With the D23 Expo in full swing, it is no surprise that this is event at which Marvel’s Fantastic Four reboot has announced a director for the film: Matt Shakman.

This reveal comes from the Marvel Studios panel at D23 and was confirmed later today by the company’s Twitter page.

Shakman replaces Director Jon Watts, who famously directed the MCU Spider-Man trilogy, after he walked away from the film to pursue other projects.
This isn’t Shakman’s first time with Marvel either. He previously worked on the Marvel Disney+ series Wandavision as director, which was received highly by both fans and critics.
Now with a confirmed director, filming for Fantastic Four should continue to film on schedule.
There hasn’t been any information regarding the plot or casting updates to the film yet, but Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige says there will be more to discuss for the next D23 expo. More information about the film will likely drop during development of the film.
The Fantastic Four series as a whole was first introduced as a live-action film in 1994, but it was never released. In 2005, director Tim Story released his version which performed well at the box office, however the 2007 sequel did not. The franchise came to a new low in 2015 with the reboot by Josh Trank whose film received bad reviews by both critics and fans alike.
The new reboot does not have a set release date just yet, but it is expected to come out in November 2024.
