Experience Peter Jackson’s Groundbreaking Documentary ‘They Shall Not Grow Old’

If you’ve seen The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy or King Kong, then you’ve experienced Peter Jackson’s enormous sense of scale and breakthroughs in technology that have changed the landscape of movies. Continuing that streak, Jackson has set his eyes upon creating a documentary about World War I. Although this may not seem a breakthrough at first glance, Slash film has reported that Jackson has fully restored and colorized 100 year old footage through cutting edge technology. Not only is seeing film from the actual era in color astonishing, but it presents this era of history the way it was always meant to be seen.

The trailer released by Warner Bros. Pictures begins by showing the original grainy, black and white videos from the first World War. But as a video of a tank is being shown, the image slowly comes into color with the rest of the trailer continually flooring expectations. No longer is there a disconnect between the audience and the images, all of the soldiers and battlefields now feel even more prevalent and more real. Voiceover of real soldiers telling their stories is even more powerful as the colorized images evoke the unmistakable feeling of reality and suffering felt by the war.

Never before has there been a documentary quite like this, and never before has there been a way for the younger generation to truly experience this vital part in American history so vividly. Peter Jackson has forever changed how the rest of the world will view World War 1 and it’s impossible to not be excited to share in that experience.

The movie is going to have a limited release in the U.S. on December 17 and 27th. You can buy your tickets here.

Keidan Chavez: I am an undergraduate attending Whittier College majoring in screen writing and journalism. I love to watch movies, play Red Dead Redemption 2 and read whenever I get the chance. I will watch anything related to Wright, Tarantino, The Coen Brothers or Nolan. I will also play anything made by Naughty Dog or Rockstar Games. I love being able to experience great stories, especially when I am able to share that experience with others. I also love learning about movies and sharing that knowledge to those that are just as passionate.
