Ellen Burstyn To Receive Golden Lion At Venice Film Festival

Oscar Winning Actress, Ellen Burstyn, will receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 83rd Venice Film festival. According the official website of the Venice Film Festival, the decision was made by the Board of Directors of La Biennale, on the recommendation of the Director of the festival, Alberto Barbera. “An actress of rare intensity and truth, Ellen Burstyn has been a presence in American cinema for over fifty years, bringing depth and complexity to unforgettable female characters embodying the contradictions and transformations in the contemporary woman.” Barbera said.

In the same page, Burstyn is quoted saying, “Wow! I not only get to travel to one of my top most favorite cities in the whole world. I get to return home carrying a Golden Lion in my arms! The Lifetime Achievement Award from the Venice Film Festival! I feel so honored— so happy — so filled with gratitude! Wow indeed!” The award will be given to her during the screening of Flesh Impact, a short film directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal about Marilyn Monroe.

Ellen Burstyn won her first Oscar for her role in Martin Scorsese’s Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. Before that she was nominated for her role in The Exorcist.
