According to Deadline, Édgar Ramírez (Deliver Us from Evil) is in talks to join the cast of The Girl on the Train.
The trio of women at the center of Tate Taylor’s (The Help) film have already been cast – Emily Blunt (Sicario), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation), and Haley Bennett (The Equalizer). Possibly rounding out the cast are Jared Leto (The Suicide Squad) and Chris Evans (Captain America: Civil War), who have reportedly been in talks to join the DreamWorks feature.
The screenplay by Erin Cressida Wilson (Men, Women, and Children) is an adaptation of the New York Times-best selling novel of the same name by Paula Hawkins. The story follows Rachel (Blunt), an alcoholic divorcee on her daily train commute. Her train passes her former home, now occupied by her ex-husband and his new wife, Anna (Ferguson). The train also passes by the home of Scott and Megan (Bennett), a beautiful couple whom Rachel imagines as having the perfect life. After witnessing suspicious goings-on at the couple’s home, Rachel gets pulled into a murder mystery as things spiral out of control in her own life.
The Venezuelan-born Ramírez would play the character of Dr. Kamal Abdric, Megan’s psychiatrist who becomes involved in an affair with her and later is a suspect in her disappearance. Ramírez has had roles in Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty, Paul Greengrass’ The Bourne Ultimatum, and Ridley Scott’s The Counselor. More recently, he headlined the Spanish language film The Liberator, and had top billing opposite Eric Bana (Lone Survivor) in Scott Derrickson’s Deliver Us from Evil. He will be seen later this year in David O. Russell’s biopic starring Jennifer Lawrence, Joy, and in Ericson Core’s crime thriller remake Point Break, both bowing on Christmas Day. He has completed filming on Stephen Gaghan’s drama, Gold, starring Academy Award winning actor Matthew McConaughey (Interstellar) and Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World), which will hit theaters next year.
The Girl On The Train is currently in pre-production and is scheduled for release sometime in 2016.
