Dylan O’Brien Wages a Personal War in First Trailer for ‘American Assassin’

CBS Films has dropped the first trailer for the Michael Cuesta directed (Kill the Messenger) adaptation of American Assassin. Based on the novel by Vince Flynn, the story follows Mitch Rapp, — played by Maze Runner star Dylan O’Brien — CIA recruit under the tutelage of Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton). Together with CIA Deputy Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan, Something New) and Mitch’s goal for personal vendetta against those that harmed his loved ones, they work to take down a terrorist cell and a mysterious operative (Taylor Kitsch, Lone Survivor) looking to begin a World War in the Middle East.

This is another franchise with a built-in audience for O’Brien, after starring in the continuing Maze Runner young adult series. Based on the trailer, the young actor looks like a budding Tom Cruise and a natural action star. Mitch Rapp is an extensive character for Flynn, appearing in a series of fifteen novels, and if the film wins over audiences, this could be another cash grab and sequel opportunity for O’Brien.

Check out the explosive trailer below and see the movie in theaters on September 15 of this year.
