‘Downtown Owl’ Adaptation Casts Lily Rabe, Ed Harris, Vanessa Hudgens, Finn Wittrock, and Henry Golding

Deadline reported on Wednesday the casting for the adaptation of Chuck Klosterman’s Downtown Owl, comedic novel set in North Dakota in the fictional and unconventional town of Owl. According to the report, the film is set to star Lily Rabe, Ed Harris, Vanessa Hudgens, and Finn Wittrock. Rabe is signed to direct the picture with past collaborator Hamish Linklater. The Hollywood Reporter later reported that Henry Golding would also join the cast on Thursday.

Rabe will produce through Kill Claudio Productions alongside Bettina Barrow, Rebecca Green, and Linklater. T Bone Burnett has been tapped to score the pic.

Rabe and Linklater said: “We are so thrilled to have the opportunity, with this phenomenal cast, exquisite crew, and brilliant producing partners, to bring Chuck Klosterman’s human, haunting, and hilarious novel to the screen. We both grew up in small towns, towns that we love. The town of Owl, sweet and sour, has felt like home to us from the first read, and we are elated to be making this love story about home into a movie.”

Rabe has most recently appeared in Amazon’s The Tender Bar with Ben Affleck and Showtime’s new series The First Lady. She has also appeared in Underground Railroad and several seasons of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story, an anthology horror series. Wittrock has also appeared in Horror Story and is set to appear in HBO Max’s Green Lantern series. Harris is best known for his roles in The Truman Show, Apollo 13, and most recently, the Academy Award-nominated film The Lost Daughter.

The film has already begun production in Minnesota.
