‘Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore’ Aims for 40 Million Domestic Debut

The third entry to the Fantastic Beasts series is expecting $40 million midnight release from 4,200 North American theaters. This weekend Warner Bros hopes to surpass the competition unless Sonic the Hedgehog 2 crosses the finish line before the Fantastic Beasts. The sequel to the new live-action film Sonic the Hedgehog 2 continues to flourish at the box office. Last weekend the furry blue speedster grossed a high of $72 million and was estimated to gross another 30 million this Easter weekend.

David Yates directed Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter Half-Blood Prince, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Yates directed the previous two Fantastic Beasts films. The first Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them made $74 million in North America on its opening day, while The Crimes of Grindelwald made slightly less than its predecessor with $62 million in North America on opening day. The Secrets of Dumbledore will make less than the previous films in the franchise.

But before arriving in North America, Fantastic Beasts 3 re-cumulative $58 million from 22 overseas markets. The Secrets of Dumbledore arrives in the theaters at midnight. The third film will also be shown in 44 additional markets overseas, including France, Italy, Korea, Brazil, and Mexico.
