Douglas Booth In Talks To Play Nikki Sixx in ‘The Dirt’

Band and artist biopics have been all the rage recently with directors and large studios wanting to produce these “behind-the-musician” types of films that provide the viewer events that we may have never known. Straight Outta Compton was the most recent success, followed by the much less successful All Eyez On Me releasing this year. A new band biopic is currently casting and is trying to secure an up-and-coming star to play the infamous bassist of one of the biggest rock bands of the 1980s. Douglas Booth is currently in talks to join the cast of The Dirt as bassist Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue, according to Deadline.

Motley Crue formed in Los Angeles with Sixx, drummer Tommy Lee, singer Vince Neil, and guitarist Mick Mars. They were one of the frontrunners for glam metal, but they were widely considered one of the most controversial rock bands, mostly because of their heavy drinking and drugs. This destructive lifestyle eventually led to Sixx’s overdose in 1987, where he was presumed dead but woke up hours later after overdosing in the hospital. We are unsure whether or not The Dirt will discuss the event, but because the film is based on the book of the same name, it is completely possible.

Jeff Tremaine, the director behind the Jackass franchise, has picked up the directing reins with Netflix distributing the film. Booth has most recently been seen in Loving Vincent, the first fully painted animated film, and will star in Mary Shelley, a film that tells the story of Percy Shelley and his relationship with Mary Godwin, who would go on to write Frankenstein.
