Sony’s expanded Spider-Man universe is expanding with an adaptation of the lesser known Morbius the Living Vampire, according to Variety.
The comic was created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane for the issue The Amazing Spider-Man #101, which was the first written without co-creator Stan Lee. It follows Dr. Michael Morbius, a man who suffers from a rare blood disease and develops vampirism after trying to cure himself. After his invention, he became a Spider-Man villain and later somewhat of an antihero in the canon.
Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, who recently worked on the Power Rangers movie, wrote the script in a secret development process and recently submitted it to Sony. The studio is currently working on expanding their comic universe through the villains and antiheroes within the Spider-Man world, such as the upcoming Venom, starring Tom Hardy.
As of now, it looks like Sony doesn’t have plans to incorporate Tom Holland’s Spider-Man or any of the currently running Marvel Cinematic Universe; however, with deals being discussed regularly about a selling or merging between the two studio super powers, it will be interesting to see how far this Spider-Man without a Spider-Man world will go.
