Deadline reports that Dolly Parton is due to return to the big screen for the feature film adaptation of Run, Rose, Run, based on a James Patterson novel co-written by Parton. Patterson and Parton will produce along with Reese Witherspoon and her production company Hello Sunshine. The novel became an instant New York Times bestseller after being published this past month. Parton also released a companion album of the same name through her label Butterfly Records. Run, Rose, Run is about a young woman who travels to Nashville in pursuit of her dream to become a country music star. However, her songs are inspired by a secret that she wants to hide desperately; if revealed, it could threaten her future.
“Growing up in Nashville, I’ve loved Dolly since the moment I heard her magical voice and saw her luminous personality shine onstage,” Witherspoon said. “Beyond her magnetic presence as an artist and performer, she is one of the greatest songwriters and storytellers of our time. In addition to her music success, Parton has starred in classics like 9 to 5, Steel Magnolias, and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine also produced an adaptation of the bestsellers, Where the Crawdads Sing and Your Place or Mine.
