‘Doctor Strange’ Director Scott Derrickson Joins Blumhouse & Universal to Direct Horror Movie ‘Black Phone’

The Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson is at it again with his next directing capabilities. Deadline first reported that Derrickson will direct the horror movie Black Phone for Blumhouse and Universal Pictures and will co-write the adapted screenplay with Robert Cargill. Derrickson and Cargill worked on scripts together for Doctor Strange, Sinister, and Bermuda.

‘Black Phone’ is based on Joe Hill’s horror novella with the same name as the film in his book 20th Century Ghosts. The book is about a dead cinephile, a lonely kid, an eight-foot-tall locust, and a man named John locked in a basement stained with the blood of murdered children. Hill wrote the book Horns that became a motion picture in 2013 that starred Daniel Radcliffe and is on Netflix

Mason Thames whose has been working on a TV show called For All Mankind on Apple TV+ and Madeleine McGraw, whose acting credits include Toy Story 4 and The Mandela Effect, are set to star in the horror film.

Derrickson, Cargill, and Blumhouse founder and CEO are producing the film. Hill will also serve as an executive producer.

In 2016 the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Doctor Strange generated $677 million worldwide. He was set to direct the sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness but had to exit the movie earlier this year due to creative differences.

Derrickson directed Exorcism of Emily Rose in 2005, Sinister in 2012, and Deliver Us From Evil in 2014. Derrickson has a knack for horror movies, and so the upcoming film will be nothing of difference for him.

I want to write something outside the normal, something no one would think to write about in a unique way. It also shows how far I am willing to go to produce something amazing that will get more readers interested in the world of Journalism. I am on my way to making a professional life for myself.
