‘Doctor Sleep’ Director Mike Flanagan Teases ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ Pitch

Following the news of Wes Craven’s estate gaining the rights back to A Nightmare on Elm Street, Doctor Sleep director Mike Flanagan has teased his own pitch idea for the series’ reboot.

Going to Twitter, Flanagan posted an article from Bloody Disgusting reporting the news, commenting “Put me in, coach… I’ve got a pitch!” Fans have responded enthusiastically, as Flanagan has found recent success with his newly released sequel to Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, an equally beloved classic horror flick, while also gaining favor from Stephen King who notoriously hated the adaptation of his work.

No other details regarding Flanagan’s supposed pitch were revealed. Craven’s estate gained the rights to the 1984 film back in September, and is said to be actively taking pitches for a new entry in the Nightmare on Elm Street series. Considering Flanagan’s resume, the collaboration doesn’t seem too out of left field. Before directing Doctor Sleep, Flanagan previously worked on horror films Hush and Oculus, as well as Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House and Gerald’s Game

A Nightmare on Elm Street remake of the same name released in 2010 received poor reception and failed to produce a sequel. Meanwhile Robert Englund, the face of iconic Elm Street villain Freddy Krueger, made a return appearance as the Springwood Slasher post-Freddy vs. Jason for last year’s Halloween special episode of The Goldbergs. As for whether Flanagan’s pitch will ever see the light of day is to be determined.
