Deadline has just announced that Michael Jackson biopic is being planned by Graham King, the producer of Academy Award-winning Bohemian Rhapsody. King acquired the rights to make the film via Jackson’s estate, complete with additional access to the pop star’s complete discography. John Logan, a three-time Academy Award winner, is signed on to write the script.
Apparently the film won’t gloss over Jackson’s rough childhood and recent revelations of sexual assault allegations explored by the recent controversial HBO documentary, Leaving Neverland, directed and produced by Dan Reed. The documentary was released in 2019 and won a Primetime Creative Arts Awards Emmy for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special.
Jackson passed away in 2009 due to drug overdose after a long career in the entertainment industry, one which saw him become the face of musical entertainment. He began his career as lead singer of a band called the Jackson 5, comprised of Michale and his four Jackson siblings and managed by his domineering father. He later went on to have one of the most lucrative solo careers with albums such as Thriller which became the best-selling album of all time. This album plus a dozen others would earn him the nickname The King of Pop.
