Director and New Hollywood Icon Peter Bogdanovich Dies at 82

Director Peter Bogdanovich, the man behind The Last Picture Show and Paper Moon among others, has died at the age of 82, as confirmed by his family.

Bogdanovich died of natural causes shortly before 1:00 a.m. PST, according to a statement released by his daughter Antonia Bogdanovich.

“We would like to ask for your respect of our privacy while we mourn the death of our loved one, our precious man,” she said in the statement covered by NBC.

Bogdanovich leaves behind an extraordinary legacy as one of the great representatives of the so-called New Hollywood, a cinematographic trend with a marked countercultural character and with a clear European influence, as well as a gateway to legendary directors such as Francis Ford Coppola, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese or George Lucas.
