DeWanda Wise Says Goodbye to ‘Captain Marvel’

DeWanda Wise, who had agreed to co-star in the upcoming Captain Marvel is now stepping away to pursue a Netflix series, She’s Gotta Have It, according to Deadline. The news comes after reports of a scheduling conflict with the series, which was renewed in January just as Wise had joined the Marvel film. Wise currently plays Nola Darling in the series that is based on Spike Lee’s 1986 film.

So far, Marvel has no news on who will be replacing Wise in the Captain Marvel film that stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel.  The film will center around her character as an air force pilot that debuted in the 1968 Marvel Comics. Danvers was a human companion for the original Mar-Vell until her DNA was fused to that of an alien during an accident which in turn gave her the superpowers of strength, energy projection and flight.

The film, which looks to be taking place in the ’90s prior to any other Marvel Universe film, is being directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck with a domestic release date so far for March 8, 2019.

More on a replacement as it is released.
