Moviegoers trying to grab tickets to see Dune: Part Three in IMAX 70 mm—experienced app crashes and long lines at box offices.
The tickets went on sale yesterday and customers were experiencing crashes adding their tickets in the cart for AMC and Fandango’s apps almost instantaneously. CEO of AMC, Adam Aron, took to X to address the issues people were facing.
“We try so hard to be expert in what we usually do so well, devoted as we are to pleasing hundreds of millions of guests in our theatres each year. Today, though, as Dune 3 tickets went on sale, the crushing volumes briefly slowed or glitched our online ticketing systems. Indeed, AMC experienced extraordinarily high demand, particularly for premium format presentations and for some of our most desired locations.”
As for those in line at the box office, some posted on X that the lines were around the building to grab tickets for the 70mm theater release of the film, with lot of attention being drawn to AMC Lincoln Square 13 in NYC. Some listings have already been made on eBay for $100+ dollars, with one listing reaching $1,250.
Some moviegoers were able to grab tickets in April when the first pre-sale tickets began. Aron continued in his post, “I am told that about $2 million of IT programming resource will let us fully address the issue. Of course, that money has been approved already, and we’ve asked our IT team to move at a whirlwind speed to take whatever steps are needed so that our ticketing systems are—in all situations and in all quantities—again top shelf.”
