‘The Bell Jar’ Cast Grows With Danielle Deadwyler, Ella Beatty, Ike Barinholtz And More

The Bell Jar, an adaptation of Sylvia Plath’s classic novel of the same name, has officially completed production. The film, which stars Billie Eilish and Carey Mulligan, has revealed its supporting cast as it finishes production. Danielle Deadwyler (The Harder They Fall, Carry-On), Ella Beatty (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You), Ike Barinholtz (Suicide Squad),  Lili Taylor (I Shot Andy Warhol),  Dylan Hawco (Ice Cream Man), Maggie Kuntz and Connor Storrie (Heated Rivalry) fill out the supporting roles.

The Bell Jar follows college student Esther Greenwood (Eilish) as she gets a new job at a magazine and her journey to deal with the scrutiny she faces upon arriving. The original novel was published in 1963 by Sylvia Plath, and was a the only novel written by the poet. It was a semi-autobiographical piece, mirroring the poet’s own mental health struggles while working within the publishing industry. Tragically, Plath died by suicide a mere month after The Bell Jar was published.

Sarah Polley directed and wrote the screenplay for the film. The director/writer/actor won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for Women Talking in 2023. The Bell Jar marks Billie Eilish’s acting debut. Despite being a newcomer to acting, Eilish already has 2 Oscars, both for Best Original Song (for No Time to Die and Barbie). The film is produced by Plan B, Studiocanal and Joy Coalition.
