The DC Universe came out in full swing during today’s Warner Bros. panel at San Diego Comic-Con. Aside from exciting developments with the Justice League film, it was confirmed that Ben Affleck will be directing the stand alone Batman film for the comic tentpole.
It sounds as though Affleck is looking to put his own personal spin on the classic superhero’s tale. At the panel, he commented:
It’s really inspiring. It’s like taking on a great play. It’s been reinvented so many times, it’s terrifying but it’s exciting.
Also, recently during a Justice League set visit, Affleck told reporters “I have a script, we’re still working on it, and I’m not happy enough with it yet to actually go out there and make a Batman movie, for which I have the highest of standards, I would say… That’s something that would have to pass a very high bar for me. It’s not just like, ‘Yeah, that might be fun, let’s go try this out.’”
An official release date has not been set for the film, but we do know that it will be released sometime between The Flash in 2018 and Cyborg in 2019. We also know that the film will be heavily influenced by Affleck himself, as he is now the lead actor, director, and executive producer on the project.
Affleck’s past directorial endeavors include Gone Baby Gone (2007), The Town (2010), and the Oscar-winning Argo (2012). His filmography will soon include Live By Night in 2017.
